LEVEL/POSITION: SUPERVISOR TRANSPORTATION

REPORTS TO: SENIOR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS

POSITION SUMMARY: To provide for the safe transportation of all District students to and from school and other related events. Must maintain a high level of customer service and demonstrate effective leadership as an administrator. This position must plan, supervise, and implement the programs of the Transportation Department and Bus Garage to coincide with the District’s goals.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education – Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Logistics, or a related field from an accredited institution. 
  • Experience – Minimum five (5) years of verifiable successful administrative-level experience in a transportation-related area or school administration. Experience in an educational organization of similar scale and scope preferred.
  • Computer Skills – Basic understanding and knowledge of the use of current technology, as required for the position. Experience in data entry and Microsoft Word. 
  • Certificates and/or License(s) – Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license or obtain within 30 work days and the ability to drive. CDL license preferred.

  • Plan, organize, direct, and coordinate the efficient and effective planning, routing, dispatching, operation, inspection, maintenance, repair, and storage of school buses and other District vehicles. 
  • Manage the development of procedures and processes related to Transportation systems. 
  • Supervise a large department and possess a vast knowledge of the county area, population growth, roads, etc. 
  • Remain current with changing technology and make necessary recommendations for new systems and upgrades as needed. 
  • Manage, oversee, and evaluate staff members regarding productivity in achieving District goals. 
  • Investigate and resolve concerns related to student transportation. 
  • Establish/monitor the use of performance measures and best practices to continuously improve the quality and cost of services. 
  • Coordinate the consistent application of standard operating procedures between the area zone coordinators. 
  • Assist in planning and implementing a system of feedback and evaluation regarding the effectiveness of the department as perceived by the users of their services. 
  • Serve as a team member during emergency and critical time periods. 
  • Follow all District policies and procedures. 
  • Develop leadership in the management staff. 
  • Maintain timely and accurate information and accountability for the quality of information maintained by staff. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 
  • L-Light Work – Required to push, pull, or lift up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. 

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES: 
  • Balancing - Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or moving surfaces.
  • Bending - Lowering the body forward from the waist. 
  • Climbing - Ascending or descending stairs, ramps, etc., using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. 
  • Crawling - Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet. 
  • Crouching - Bending the body downward and forward by bending the leg and spine. 
  • Dexterity - Utilize hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, hand and power tools, and to handle other computer components. 
  • Grasping - Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm. 
  • Hearing Acuity - The ability to perceive speech and other environmental sounds at normal volume levels. 
  • Kneeling - Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees. 
  • Reaching - Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. 
  • Repetitive Motion - Substantial and continuous movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. 
  • Sitting - Resting with the body supported by the buttocks or thighs. 
  • Standing - Assuming an upright position on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time. 
  • Stooping - Bending the body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist through the use of the lower extremities and back muscles. 
  • Twisting - Moving the body from the waist, using a turning motion. 
  • Visual Acuity - The power to see at a level that allows reading of numbers and text, operation of equipment, and inspection of machines, etc. 
  • Walking - Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances.
